Designed to build on skills and instruction taught in our Leadership Institute program, our annual summit presentation reinforces the importance of leadership trust and shares how social responsibility programs in organizations can impact employee retention and community relationships for your business or organization.
This three hour program will include presentations on:
- Building a foundation of trust in leadership
- Three traits of a good leader
- Employee engagement techniques and strategies
- Corporate responsibility program information
- Leadership resources for continuing education
The closing reception, from 4:30-5:00pm, includes complimentary hors d’oeuvres, beer and wine and an opportunity for Leadership Institute alumni and local business owners and leaders can socialize and network.

Joe Lawless is the Executive Director of the Center for Leadership & Social Responsibility at the University of Washington Tacoma. At the Center, he directs activities focused on creating socially responsible leaders through student classroom and co-curricular involvement, curriculum enhancement, community and business engagement and research. Joe came to UW Tacoma after earning his MBA focused on corporate social responsibility from the Milgard School of Business. Joe’s prior experience was in philanthropy and the nonprofit sector, where he was the Executive Director of the Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital Foundation.
The Center for Leadership and Social Responsibility has been working for the past 10 years to build programs and services that help our students and our local business community become better corporate citizens. Through our curriculum (classes), co-curricular activities (case competitions and speakers), conferences and gatherings, we work to develop socially responsible leaders who build sustainable organizations and communities.
